Grocery List or things you have to have on hand: 1 pound ground beef, chili powder, 1 10 3/4 oz. can chicken gumbo soup, 1 medium yellow or white cooking onion, salt and pepper, ketchup, yellow mustard
Approximate Preparation Time: 15 minute
Ease of Preparation Very Easy
List of Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 10 3/4 oz. can chicken gumbo soup
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
Directions: Brown chopped onion in a small amount of oil in a skillet or saucepan. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, stirring often. Season with salt and pepper. Add chili powder and chicken gumbo soup. Stir until mixed well. Add ketchup and mustard and stir again until blended. Cook over low heat at a simmer until some of the liquid has cooked off and the mixture is thick enough to stay on a bun.
Hints, Tips and Variations: You can vary the amount of chili powder as you prefer. Serve on hamburger buns with chips and a beer or soft drink. The number of servings depends on how generous you are with the portions. It is also very easy to make this recipe in large quantities.
Good Cooks Tell All: This was very popular with my boys when they were growing up and is always a hit when I take it to potluck dinners. It keeps well in the refrigerator for at least a week and seems to get even better as a leftover.

Source of Recipe: I have been making this recipe for at least 50 years (WOW!). It came from a friend's mother who made it for a slumber party when I was a teenager. I wouldn't be surprised if it originally came off of a sour can label.
